Echo

I've mentioned before how I like it when a modern building acknowledges an older, neighbouring building in its design and here is another example from Victoria's Quadra Street. The modern building is a Ministry of Social Services building and the old many-turreted structure on the right is the Victoria Conservatory of Music. It looks like a church because it used to be a church, and that will be the subject of tomorrow's post.

I am happy to announce that today marks the first anniversary of Victoria Daily Photo. Yes, it's one year today that I made my first post. I don't plan to do anything special here right now (aside from mounting a new header) but I hope to have some kind of retrospective when I have a little more time and inspiration during the next month. In the meantime, I thank all my visitors and followers, regular and new. Your visits and comments make it worthwhile and fun.

Congrats, Benjamin, on a job well done! Your beautiful site has been a source of enjoyment, information and inspiration for me since we both signed on to City Daily Photo about the same time.
What a great little city Victoria is and your VDP has made it far more interesting and personal. Thanks also for your neighborly visits and comments over this way.

(And a very attractive new header it is!)

Fine juxtaposition...I'll bet the church has fairly good acoustics for the Conservatory of Music.

Congratulations! It's great to come and see your pictures everyday; there's always something new, even for someone who lives in the same town. Looking forward to another year of inspiring photographs!

What a great shot. I also love the buds on the trees in the foreground. I have seen those buildings often, but never thought about them being so architecturally opposite. Your photos make me look more closely at various parts of Victoria.

Thanks all for your kind comments. Raf, I've enjoyed and learned a lot from your blog too and look forward to more. (One thing I've learned is that there is no such thing as too many pics of sailboats!)

Suzanne, those aren't buds - they're sumac fruit/berries left over from last year. In general, Daily Photo makes ME look at things more closely too.

Jabba - the new header was partially inspired by YOUR new header - especially the font....

I want to add my heartfelt congrats on your one year blogoversary. You and your daily photo chronicle of Victoria's beauty and uniqueness are wonderful. Your shots are inspirational. I love your point of view and the new ways you see things and open up really "seeing" favorite scenes in new ways. It makes visiting a special treat. Thank you for so much enjoyment in getting to know your lovely city. I look forward to your retrospective, and to your shots this coming year,

I'll offer a counterpoint. I've despised that office block since the day it was built. Its details mock the historic churches on Quadra Street. The building is also set back much too far and guarded by large concrete planters that make it very unapproachable. It's just all wrong.
