Autumn Sunset

September was summery but With the advent of October it became clear that autumn has arrived. The air is thinner and the wind is cold and blustery. One is surprised by long shadows in what seems like mid-afternoon. Here Victoria's downtown catches the last slanting rays of the setting sun. This is the view from Songhees Point.

So pretty! I'm kind of intrigued to know what is being built under that giant crane.

Beautifully timed shot of dusk arriving.

JoJo, that is a new condo tower under construction on Broughton Street, between Government and Broad.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but that sounds like a crappy location for a condo tower...won't it wreck the quaintness of the waterfront area? Wouldn't it fit in better on Douglas or Blanshard somewhere? Has it been controversial?

Good questions JoJo.
I personally have heard little controversy about it, which does seem surprising considering it will be the first condo tower within as you say, the quaint old town core area, chalk-a-block full of heritage buildings bordered by Wharf Street along the harbour and Douglas Street to the east.
This one is about in the middle, two blocks away from the waterfront.
Almost all new office or condo towers downtown have been on, or to the east of Douglas.
The property where it is has been a parking lot for some time now.
As long as heritage buildings are protected, I have no problem with a mixed use combo. It should serve to liven up residential presence in a downtown that can seem to go into a coma after 5 pm. in the winter.

I just hope it's not too tall.
