Local artist Emily Carr was honoured in 2010 with this statue on the corner of Government Street by the Empress Hotel. Emily Carr was born in Victoria in 1871, lived here most of her life and died here in 1945. She was an accomplished writer as well as a painter. Wikipedia has a good article about her work and life.

Beautifully composed Ben.
I thought this looked new last time I was up there. Great photo Ben, as usual.
A great location for this tribute to Emily who lived only a few blocks down the same street. the Royal BC Museum right across from her here is holding a special exhibit of her paintings, until October.
The Madrona Gallery on View Street also has a Carr tribute exhibit on now with contemporary works inspired by her.
