Party on the Bridge

Johnson Street Bridge, Victoria, BC, Canada, Deryk HoustonOn Sunday afternoon, artist Deryk Houston choreographed a celebration of the Johnson Street Bridge. There were songs and speeches and about 500 red and yellow balloons. The old blue bridge never looked so bright and happy.Johnson Street Bridge, Victoria, BC, Canada, Deryk Houston, balloons(Thanks to johnsonstreetbridge.org who worked with Deryk to stage this event. Thanks also to my daughter Fern Long who provided the top photo.)

What a lovely sight! I lived in Victoria for some time when attending the old Victoria College and now have family living there. I hope they never change the colour of the old Johnson Street bridge. It's always so good looking against a view of the hanging flower baskets.
Adding you to my blogroll. Thanks for lovely photos. Sharon.

I had no idea you wore that shade of lipstick, Benjamin. I has you pegged as more a 'hot rod red' sort a bloke. ;-)

Wonderful photos! (yours and your daughter's).

Nice to celebrate the bridge in this way.

Indeed, in the top photo it seems that someone kissed that part of the bridge intensely...!

Wow, that really is some kind of a giant bridge. Nice shots! I'm sure the people who left marks had fun... :-)

Canarybird - the Johnson Street Bridge is slated to disappear soon if City Council has its way. They plan to replace it with a new bridge. If you're interested, you can find out more on johnsonstreetbridge.org.

ms toast - the kiss in question was donated by my granddaughter. My preferred shade of lipstick will remain a secret.

Blognote, yes D, activities on the bridge include kissing it.

KC - yes it was a very nice event.

Oh thank you for that link Benjamin. I hadn't heard that it had been voted to be replaced. I hope the decision can be overturned and that they can just repair it and keep the original form.
Sharon.
