A New Day

I've been feeling a little short of inspiration lately. I think it's inevitable after posting one or more photos of the same city every day for more than two years. It's not that the city has no more to offer but that I've got to see it anew or get out of my comfortable ruts. I have no idea how this is going to take place but as a gesture in the direction of new beginnings I offer this shot of my favourite Victoria skyline taken at dawn.

Well I never get tired of looking at one of my fave places in the world. I've learned so much about the true hidden gems of Victoria thanks to your blog!!

Great picture of the City. Were you in a boat when you shot this? If not, where were you? I'd like to shoot this next time I go up.

Your photos are always so inspirational and gorgeous. Victoria is stunning, to say the least, and you've provided incentive to visit. Your ability to capture beauty with a camera is exceptional!!

PS I didnt' realize that there was a Widget for your daily photo! I just found it now. I'm going to add it to my blog.

Not surprising that your creative juices might run low after so long. You have done a fantastic job to date.
Here's a suggestion: a theme of perspective where the city is viewed from above ground level wherever possible, say from tops of accessible buildings.
I know the Bay Centre has a restaurant with great views from the fifth floor, .. etc.
Somebody in the UK took this to an extreme by attaching their digital camera to a helium balloon with amazing results.

Thanks imquilternity and JoJo.

JoJo, this photo was taken from Songhees Point, near the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort.

B, I admire your tenacity when it comes to early morning shots. Me... I'm still rolled up in my bedsheets at that time.

Re: inspiration... how 'bout a themed series. I know you've covered flora and fauna, but how about other themes? For example, I'm putting together a public art theme and a Victoria-after-dark theme this fall.

Maybe people themes -- interesting careers, dangerous careers, local artists and their workshops, candid street shots... I sometimes feature 'from the hip' shots where I guesstimate my composition because I don't want to alert the subject to my presence.

Wacky locations or different view points...visit the top of every parking parkade in the city and take a shot... or commit to a week of photos taken from no higher than knee height.

Maybe a theme around reflections...

How 'bout a game for your regular viewers? Take a series of shots that have some common element -- a physical object, a colour or shape, whatever... see if they can guess the unifying theme by week's end.

Haven't seen much of Sidney, Saanich peninsula, or western communities in your photos... maybe try those?

Try photojojo.com -- they often have interesting ideas or challenges for photo themes.

Looking forward to your future photographic adventures...

And thanks Dean for the kind words and the suggestion - a change in perspective is a good idea.

What a joy it must be to spend days, looking at the houses - craving surely a word which came into mind. Please have a great Friday.

Try grabbing a lens you don't often use. Just that lens and a body. See things another way...

Oh ya, BTW, this shot today is fantastic. The beautiful gradation of colour is classic for a glorious dawn (and dusk).
