Mall Near the End of the Oil Age

I realize that I operate as if my way of life is going to continue pretty much as it is forever. I suspect that's because I live as if I too were going to just go on and on and on. At twilight however I sometimes see my ordinary existence with nostalgia, as if I were looking back at the past from a future far different from what we can even imagine.

I'm trying to figure out where this mall is. One of the things I love about your blog is a chance to see some of my old stomping grounds so to speak. I was born and raised in Victoria and although I have not lived there for many years, I still love this city.
I am going to visit my two brothers who have lived in Victoria for all thier lives next week. I'll look out for your mall!!

I admit I haven't ventured into Victoria outside of the Inner Harbour area, although I've driven thru it to get to other places. Where is this Mall?

The mall is in Vic West, just off the west side of the Bay Street (Pt. Ellice) Bridge. I think it's called Westside Mall.

Benjamin, now you know why they are called "the twilight years". Carpe diem...glad you enjoy the beauty that you have.

Thanks Chuck - I was actually thinking about what it would look like without any cars and then imagining that most of this kind of stuff would be underground in the future so the planet's surface could be used for growing things and how weird this photo would look to future dwellers.

Anonymous - yes I've been feeling a bit dim lately. But there is something warm and comfy about those red taillights and neon in the gloaming....

Man, there is nothing that would serve the world better than to make the transition away from oil.
It drives inflation as much as it drives engines and wars.
The technology is there to convert, but as long as billions, if not trillions remain to be made in profit owing to our addiction we are at the mercy of corporate interests.
A People's Revolution is needed.
The tipping point will only come with consumer demand for alternatives and producers with the initiative to meet the market.
There are some evil vested interests in the auto and oil industries.
Other than that, I don't have an opinion.

You should visit this mall in the morning (before 7:30am) when there are practically no cars. Only the Starbucks seems to draw people this early. A much different atmosphere.
