Dead Arbutus

Even in death these gnarly arbutus trees are beautiful.

It sure is beautiful...something melancholy about it.

Beautiful wooden 'skeletons' and composition too!

Rigor mortis is beautiful it seems.

Beautiful indeed. Though they are most photogenic, I find arbutus very difficult to photograph. You've done a fine job here Benjamin.

All that's missing is a congregation of vultures.

As important to the ecosystem as standing snags are, arbutus makes great firewood. I'm surprised no one has taken these down, but that's Mendocino county talkin'.

I agree the tree, though without the greens, looks beautiful!!!

Thanks for your visits to my blog through the past year and making it more special with your comments. Hope you continue to visit in the new year as well. :-)

Happy New Year!!!

So sad to see dead arbutus - my favourite tree. Where is this one?

Thanks all for your kind remarks and season's greetings.

Elaine, these are urban trees just off the Westsong Walkway so I suspect their use is subject to all sorts of bylaws, etc.

Jabba, These are on the Westsong Walkway just below Spinnakers pub. (bottom of Catherine Street)

You can post an arbutus tree anytime! Though we don't have arbutus here, this captures perhaps my favorite winter sight.
