Since I posted the photos of the Bleeding Hearts the day before yesterday I have been wrestling with a bunch of photos I took at Goldstream Park that I hoped would communicate the grandeur of the old growth rain forest there. Well, it's going to take at least one more trip out there. In the meantime here are a couple of photos that may suggest the lushness of that environment. The massive presence of the gigantic trees and the atmosphere of ancient consciousness that they exude is something I have yet to capture. Click HERE to see a bit more of this park from photos I took about 18 months ago. |

Beautiful and lush indeed. Your photos do show the environment there wonderfully.
Have a great weekend.
That's it. I HAVE to get back over to Vancouver Island somehow this year! Thanks to your blog I can now venture out of downtown Victoria!!
It's been a few years since I wandered through Goldstream Park as we always seem to be in a rush to drive up island. But your photos are beautiful Benjamin. I have stood and marvelled at the salmon swimming there at spawning time. You've captured the feeling of being in that old growth rain forest.
Old growth forests are undoubtedly one of the coolest things about Vancouver Island. How profound to be in the presence of living organisms that predate North America's recorded history. There seems to be a measure of 100 years of age for each foot in diameter.
A suggestion about capturing the scale of the cedar giants: juxtaposing something recognizable beside them, like a person will go a long way.
In a related subject, I made it to High Rock Park yesterday and saw a fascinating tiny plant that was completely fern-like, but only quite miniature, maybe three inches long, but very similiar to a full-size forest fern, several feet in length.
