Old-Growth Forest

We are lucky in Victoria to have some old-growth forest right on our doorstep, on the grounds of Royal Road University. Old-growth forest has been defined as that in which trees are older than 250 years and some of those in the photo above are probably twice that age. To walk among these forest giants is a humbling and refreshing experience.

Situated on the far west coast of Canada, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is the capital city of the Province of British Columbia. Its benign climate (the warmest winters in Canada) and placid lifestyle make it a favorite retirement location as well as a popular tourist destination. About 400,000 people live in Victoria and adjacent communities.
