Early this morning while the rest of you were rioting in swinish slumber I was out capturing both the moral and literal high ground. Spurred by a reminder from commenter Dean Lewis, I re-visited Gonzales Hill, which rises above Foul Bay and is capped by the splendid Gonzales Observatory. This is another of those sites like the Fisgard Lighthouse that looks striking from every angle and in every light. Above it catches the first rays of what promises to be another lovely summer day. Hope you have a good one.

Wow, what a beautiful shot!
The sunlit foreground detail clarity and striking complementary colours contrast (owing to such current dry conditions) makes this image really jump at you. And the upward angle gives this historic observatory the feel of the grandeur of an Islamic mosque.
Amazing shot, great colors
Beautiful sky and great setting.
I swear, Victoria is a town best viewed before 7am. The sunrise makes even very dry, lifeless grass turn into something delicious... like fire. This is lovely shot, perfect sky, great colours, fantastic light on the observatory itself.
Wow, this is soooooo pretty!!:)
In itself a joy for the sense of sight.

Thanks for joining Hartford Daily Photo. I hope you see and read things that you like.
Now this is one place I have to admit I have never seen, even though I grew up in Victoria, and not far off of Foul Bay Rd. either. I love this photo, the sky looks cool with its wispy clouds and the colours in the dry grass are spot on. I will have to check this place out next time I visit!
This shot is fantastic - you've captured the light. I like the viewpoint you've taken the shot from. Have you ever been to Arbutus Cove? That's a hidden gem but a little further afield...
Thanks all for your kind remarks. Quinn, you're partly responsible for me getting up so early but I agree that Victoria is best viewed at dawn.
Sheila, I don't know Arbutus Cove so I'll have to see if I can find out about it.
Such a pretty photo!
