Salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis)

Here's another harbinger of spring from Saxe Point Park, the wild member of the raspberry family known as the Salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis). According to Wikipedia, the name comes from the native peoples' fondness for eating the fruit of this plant with dried salmon roe.

Have you tried a salmonberry? They are quite good! I wonder if they are blooming as early as the cherry blossoms this year....
