Vic West

Vic West is mostly a residential neighborhood, but the range of residences is quite varied. The condos above, for instance are only a few hundred yards from the Queen Anne style house pictured yesterday. When I first saw these condos I didn't like them very much but their cheerful colors and interesting shapes have grown on me.

Dominant

Victoria's newest Condo tower, "Promontory" in the Bayview Place Development, (far left) dominates the skyline - when viewed from anywhere west of the city. This skyline shot was taken from the West Bay Walkway near Sailor's Cove. Sure would be nice to get some photos from up top of this new building.

Westsong Condos

Dawn

Yesterday's photo taken during twilight reminded me that I have been meaning to follow advice I've read from several expert photographers to get out and take pictures before sunrise. So while the rest of you were still fast asleep I was out taking some dawn photos. The one above is actually a little before the sunrise. It's Victoria's Inner Harbour with the condos along the Westsong walkway on the left.

The Shutters

Here's another shot of my favourite Songhees Condominium, The Shutters. I see from reading about this place on Google that condominiums here are much used as a time-share/vacation rentals. This explains to some extent the lack of life in the area since there may not be many permanent residents. In any case, I like the appearance of the several buildings that comprise this development.

Westsong Condominiums

Although I ride past these condominiums almost every day I tend to ignore them when it comes to taking pictures. For me there is something wrong with this area. The location is sublime, the buildings are beautifully finished and maintained but the neighbourhood is dead. It's a little like walking around in a graveyard. Perhaps this is because there are a lot of absentee owners and that there are no children. There are also no stores, post offices, shopping centers, playgrounds and most of the time, not very many people.

Songhees Condominiums

On the other side of the sidewalk from the mailbox I posted a few days ago rises this new condominium, completed about three or four months ago. Most of the condos that line the Inner Harbour along the Westsong Walkway are not unattractive though they are rather conservative in their design. I like this one.
