Victoria added a new activity to its tourist menu this year - Victoria Hippo Tours. If it looks like a bus on the water, that's because that's what it is. It's an amphibious bus that takes on passengers in front of the Empress Hotel, does a tour of the city streets and then takes to the water and cruises inside and outside of the Inner Harbour. Other cities located on the water have also developed this form of tour - I've been on the one in Seattle, called The Duck, though I've not yet ridden the Hippo here in Victoria. |

Riding on a hippo, how hip is that! :-)
We did it earlier in the summer. Bit pricy if going as a family, but good value for the money.
We actually appear in one of their promotional videos on YouTube -- to the theme of Gilligan's Island we had to do the 'Star Trek' shake to simulate getting lost at sea!
There are Duck Tours in Hyannis now but I haven't taken one yet. My friends who live here are mortified at the thought of doing something touristy but I might do it next summer! Where's that Inukshuk?
Thanks for your comments Eclecticity, Mike and JoJo.
@JoJo - the Inukshuk is on a little island just off the shore by Rainbow Park on the Westsong Walkway.
Here there's a company that has them go out on the Ottawa River. They're referred to as ducks, but it's the same thing.
Cute looking transport.
