Customs House

Regular visitors here will know that in the summer I spend a lot of time down on the Inner harbour Causeway and the nearby streets. I've been neglecting the downtown lately because it has been so cold and wet so for the next few days we'll take look at some of my favourites as they look on a SUNNY winter day (yesterday). Here's the old Custom House looking pretty good in the winter light. On the left you can see what it looked like from the same vantage point in April 2009.

Nice pic of one of my favourites, but your title misled me into thing I might see a custom-built house. And I think you dropped the "s" - it's actually Customs House.

Hi Paul - I agree with you that it is more consistent with popular usage to use "customs" as in "customs and excise" but the Historic Sites and Monuments plaque in front of the building refers to it as the "Old Victoria Custom House." That usage is found elsewhere as well, a custom house being a place where customs (a tax on imports) are collected.

Ah, semantics! It's a great building either way.
