As I noted in an earlier post, "The first bridge over the Gorge at this point collapsed on Victoria Day in 1896 when a streetcar bearing 120 holidaymakers attempted to cross. Fifty-five lives were lost." You can read the original 1896 newspaper article describing this tragedy by clicking HERE. The current bridge was built during the 1950's.

I really love the reflection of the clouds in the smooth as glass water. I'm sure I sailed under this on the Harbour Ferry Tour.
ReplyDeleteSimply awesome. Thank you.

When I lived in Victoria, I crossed this bridge most every day, either going to work or visiting parents and going home to Esquimalt. I never looked at it from any perspective except in the car, for sure not under it! I love this photo, your reflection is awesome and for something I thought was so familiar to me you have shown me I never really saw it at all!! I love photos for that, seeing in them things I gloss over normally. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is special. Great clarity, composition, symmetry and reflection.
ReplyDeleteThis scene was just waiting for a photographer like you to come along and preserve it for everyone to see. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind remarks. I generally feel some trepidation when I post of photo of something that doesn't seem to be intrinsically beautiful. I'm always looking for beauty. Sometimes it's given to one on a platter (Lake Louise in the Rockies for example) but most of the time you have to dig a little deeper to find it, if you can find it at all.
