From beneath the Bay Street Bridge the view above is looking north and slightly west up the Gorge towards the Selkirk Waters. The house on the opposite shore that is visible through the trees is Point Ellice House. The photo on the right is the view looking in the opposite direction, down the Gorge towards the city. On the left is LaFarge Cement and Butler's Concrete. The large blue building is a thrift store called Valu Village. |

The reflections in these pics are outstanding as well. You can even see a jet contrail in the top pic. The shoreline reflections look like Rorschach tests. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was there in '07, the Harbour Ferry tour guide pointed out a homeless man's 'float home' cobbled together from various flotsam and jetsam that he found. It was pretty interesting. I am pretty sure it was in this part of the Gorge.
Jojo:
ReplyDeleteThat boat you are talking about was built by Roland Lapierrre and anchored further up the Gorge, just past the Selkirk Trestle.

He moved on about two years ago, but, unfortunately, started a trend with increasing number of junk boats now dropping anchor at the same spot.
I just heard about the chemical that turned the water bright green in Goldstream Park. Did you go up and shoot some pics?
ReplyDeleteJudging by your recent postings you found the Bay Street Bridge attractive. You made an excellent choice and your talent as photographer made it all worth while. Keep on clicking.
ReplyDeleteAndy I always try to look for the positive but the Bay Street Bridge leaves me pretty inert. Beyond its virtues - it's functional and unpretentious - I can't find much to delight (or even interest) the eye. I hope it doesn't seem too egocentric to confess that the challenge for me here was to take some attractive photos of an unappealing object (kind of like shooting a politician's PR portrait.)
ReplyDeleteJoJo - I missed the green but apparently it only lasted an hour or so. But then I usually miss newsworthy events unless they are well-advertised for about a month before they occur.... I'm an expert at being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
ReplyDelete@Mike - i checked out your link. Yes, that's the exact 'boat' that I shot a photo of in the Gorge back in the summer of 2007!
