Beacon Hill Park

Famous local artist and author Emily Carr wrote about her love for Fawn Lilies and whenever I see these in Beacon Hill Park, I imagine that she must have been thinking of this particular meadow. Indeed, her house is only a few minutes walk from where I took this photo on Tuesday.

What a lovely and joyous sight!

Odds are she spent time here then.

I saw Emily Carr's fawn lily painting at the Victoria Art Gallery a few months ago (that Benjamin mentioned in a previous post) and would never have guessed it was her work. She was obviously inspired by her visits to Beacon Hill Park.

Benjamin, we're going to be in Victoria next week. Where do we go in Beacon Hill to see these lilies?

Hi Furry,
The lilies are on the southern side of the park, on Southgate Street about half-way between Douglas and Quadra Streets. I wish I could promise you some good weather but the forecast looks like it's going to continue cold (about 13 deg. C) and cloudy. Maybe not cold compared to where you are but still the coldest, wettest spring here that I can remember. The lily meadow is right beside the road so you should have no trouble finding it. Have a good trip!
