Bear Hill Park is on the Saanich Peninsula about a half hour's drive from Victoria and is covered with spring flowers right now, especially Shooting Stars, Sea Blush, Camas and Fawn Lilies. But what I really went there for a few days ago was to see if I could find one of our local wild orchids, commonly called Ladyslipper (Calypso bulbosa). I was lucky enough to find a few and will share a photo tomorrow. For today let's just enjoy the view from near the summit of Bear Hill. Below, take a minute and watch the clouds sail by.

What a great view! The name of the park gives rise to the question if there are any bears on the island? I know they probably wouldn't be anywhere near the southern end, but what about the rugged interior and north?
@JoJo - I'd be a bit surprised to see a bear on Bear Hill but Vancouver Island as a whole has one of the densest bear populations in the world - estimated currently at around 7,000. Most, thankfully, prefer to live in areas that are not heavily populated by people. Fern and I visited Goldstream Park yesterday and I noticed there are signs there warning visitors of possible bear encounters. Goldstream Park is only about 10 miles from Victoria.
Yesterday was a great day to be on a hill! It was fantastically clear and a great day to catch photos of Mt. Baker and the mountains of Washington.
Now that's a smashing view!
