I mentioned in an earlier post about the slightly confusing nomenclature of local squirrels and that some of the "gray" squirrels are black. Here's one and if I understand correctly, because he's black and living in the west we can safely assume he's an Eastern Gray Squirrel.

Wow! I've never seen a black squirrel!
It's been cool overnight here. This morning I saw a squirrel scraping frost off his nuts.
Very cute! Nice focus and I loved the texture of the tree-stem.
He's a lovely specimen and reminds me of squirrels I saw in Calgary running around my daughter's city yard and suburban streets. They were also black.
One good location for 'wild' animal photography is at the U Vic campus. There are rabbits running all around there and some are quite tame. Of course students love them while the administration tries to get rid of them. At least that was the case when I was there 2 years ago.
