Today I had the pleasure of meeting Metro, a street musician playing on the Inner Harbour causeway. He plays the Ukrainian Dulcimer, an instrument I had never heard before. Below is a video I took to give you some idea of what a dulcimer sounds like and how it is played.

Hey! That's a nice treat! I think they used it in some of the Dr. Zhivago soundtrack. Very cool.
I've never seen one of those before. Very interesting sound.
There must be versions of the dulcimer all around the world. I know there are appalachian dulcimers which probably were later versions of Irish, Welsh and Scottish dulcimers.

@USelaine: "balalaika" is the name of the instrument used in the dr. zhivago soundtrack (lara's theme).
that being said i have often wondered myself how lara's theme must sound like if played with hammered dulcimers ...
