Wild Rose

There are lots of these blooming now, wild roses, one of my favorite wildflowers.

Pink

Although we are nearing the end of October, some hardy wildflowers continue to bloom as if it were summer. Here's two - above, a Wild Rose blooms on the West Bay Walkway. Below, small almost heather-like plants produce these lovely little pink bossoms, also on the West Bay Walkway, not twenty feet distant from where the wild rose is blooming.

Enough Snow!

Victoria goes into its third day of snow-covered ground and sub-zero temperatures and I'm in total denial. No more pictures of snow - it just encourages it! I'm focused on Spring.... Rose growers have bred and hybridized thousands of different varieties of rose but my favorite is still the wild one such as pictured above.

Wood's Rose (Rosa woodsii)

Here's another old favorite familiar to anyone who has ever spent any time outdoors in this area, one of the species of wild rose. I believe this one is what is called Wood's Rose (Rosa woodsii) but differences between the various species are quite subtle.They were just starting to bloom last week when I was out at Swan lake.
