Pollards

Between the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort and the Johnson Street Bridge is a small passage leading to the Songhees Walkway. Every year caretakers pollard these trees and I always find them oddly attractive in this condition. By mid-summer they will have sprouted hundreds of slender, leafy branches

I've never heard that expression, 'pollard'.
I haven't heard of it before either. They look rather alien like this.
I have never heard of this term for a tree severely pruned. I would love to see them when they are full of foliage.
