Halkett Island

In the centre of the Selkirk Waters lies this tiny island, Halkett Island, here looking surprisingly verdant despite the freezing temperatures. It is also known as Deadman's Island because it was used as a burial place by First Nations people. There's a good short article about the island's history on Wikimapia, as well as the lovely aerial photo below. The "bridge" on the lower left of the photo below is the Selkirk Trestle and is where I took the above photo of the island.

Situated on the far west coast of Canada, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is the capital city of the Province of British Columbia. About 400,000 people live in Victoria and adjacent communities.

Very interesting, I'll have to check out the link!
An island such as this around here would be inhabited by cormorants, and therefore not nearly so green!
It's higher up in the water than a similar island on the Ottawa River below Parliament Hill, which generally gets only a bird population.
