The glorious flowers above are Rhododendrons. There are more than a thousand species of this flowering bush found in many different parts of the world. I suspect these are a local species since they were blooming last Sunday in a native plants garden in Beacon Hill Park. There are a surprising number of other early blooms out now including another favorite of mine, the crocus.
The Rhodie is our state flower! :) Can't believe they are starting to bloom already. The ones in Washington also have buds but I haven't seen them flowering yet.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! I love rhodies! I live in Anacortes, WA and I have daffodils poking up through already! What a crazy winter it's been. Just hope we don't pay for it with a wet cold summer!

ReplyDeleteWhat a mild winter and early spring we are having. I posted some Rhodie buds last week ... haven't been past to check on them this week, though I see a Camellia bush blooming in my neighbors yard across the street. We in the PNW have been fortunate this year.
