Worth a Second Look - 8

Yesterday's photo reminded me of another photo I posted a year earlier, in 2010, entitled "Curiosity". This photo was taken at the Harbour Ferry stop in the Inner Harbour. The two boys were excitedly peering at the anemones and other undersea plants/animals that grow on the underwater parts of the dock while their parents were sitting placidly on the bench behind them. Here is the caption I attached to the photo at the time:
Though we never really lose our curiosity completely it does seem to be one of those characteristics that fades as we mature. I suspect it has to do with the growth of confidence and decisiveness. You can't act with confidence unless you feel sure that you have a firm grip on the nature of reality. There is no place for wonder in such a state of mind. Yet curiosity is what enables us to explore the world, meet new people and learn new things, a process that should never end.

Young Buskers

I caught this pair on Saturday. There's more kids busking this year than I can remember seeing before, though most don't do it regularly. These little girls don't look so much like buskers - they have the gravitas and dress that made their performance seem like a concert.

Great Beach House

I took a spin around the the eastern side of Victoria today to Cattle Point and Willows Beach. I had to stop and photograph this beach construction - now that's a beach house!

Whee!

Well, that snow is gone now, though we may get some more before winter's over. Victoria doesn't get much snow - I don't think we had any last winter. But when we do get some, Victorians like to get out and enjoy it as much as possible. This was the scene last week in Banfield Park in Vic West.

Kids on Parade

There's always lots of kids in the Victoria Day Parade here, most of them marching or riding on or in some kind of vehicle. Marching the length of the parade is an achievement, but I've got to salute these kids who do it with cartwheels and handsprings all the way. The boy in the center doesn't even have gloves on - I bet his hands were sore by the end of the parade.

Field Trip

I had occasion to visit the Legislative Assembly Buildings on Wednesday and happened to notice this group of kids on a field trip. Though the concept is not new to me, when I cast my mind back to my own school days I cannot ever remember taking a field trip. I'm glad modern children get a break from classroom walls from time to time.

Summer '09

The Inner Harbour is always a magical place but I suspect it is even moreso when......you're ten, and you have your own boat.....and can take your friends on a tour in the last golden light of a summer evening.
