More Victoria Icons

Yesterday's view from Songhees Point was taken facing west. Today's photo is taken from the same point facing east. It's kind of a junky grab-bag kitchen sink photo but I like it because so many of Victoria's icons are visible - the Johnson Street Bridge in its permanent half up position, totem poles, the ubiquitous seagull front and center, Swans Hotel, the harbour and a few boats.

The E&N is no more, and they're doing away with the bridge, for which I don't understand the rationale.

Paul, there was a lot of controversy over the decision to replace the bridge. The city railroaded their decision through and then stonewalled until everyone was too tired to argue any more. There is a website and organization that expresses viewpoints in opposition to the bridge replacement: http://johnsonstreetbridge.org/

I love this 'grab bag' shot! When will the new bridge be built? I was hoping this one would be restored. It's so historic, esp. being engineered by Joseph Strauss who did the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hi JoJo - So far as I know the funding is in place for the new bridge - I don't know what the holdup is now since there was such a big rush to make the decision....
