Victoria is now implementing a new parking system on downtown streets. The blue post above indicates a parking space with a specific number. A little further up the street you can see the device on the left, which is where you pay for your parking space. It takes coins or credit cards or a parking card you can buy from the city. That little panel on the top provides solar power. On the right is a close-up of the payment panel. You can find out more about this new system by visiting the City of Victoria website. |

No way! Well, it would be nice to pay with a credit card rather than digging through your pockets for change!
In some areas of Florida, we have the same or a similar system. It really works out well, especially when you don't have the proper change or enough change...
Besides not having to have coins, what is the advantage here? Solar powered but I am assuming it prints off receipts on paper ..
Does it accept debit or is it yet another device making us rely on credit cards?
Hi Davin - after exposing my total ignorance of issues involved the last time I posted a picture of a parking meter I just decided to trust to the city website for info and there it says the new system will, "make parking easier and more inviting" and what more could one ask for? I think the BIG advantages are that you can pay by credit card (though not by debit), that there is no need to return to your vehicle after you have paid (i.e. no need to put receipt on dash) and that you can add time (up to the 90 minute limit) from any pay station, once again, without having to return to your vehicle.
Now what is "easy or inviting" about having to pay for parking?! However if you must pay this seems like a good system as long as you remember your number! Great photos and thanks for sharing.
Smiles
