Fern, I've come to note that you have a unique style of composition that results in a very real "tension" of elements. The smaller, so-called subject in heavy imbalance to the larger empty space accounting for 3/4 of the overall format. The result for the eye is dwell on the subject aware of a dominant surrounding, almost subconsciously in competition.
