Actually this
Great Blue Heron is just having a nap. It must be very convenient to be able to just tuck your head under a large wing whenever you want to shut out the world. But I don't know as I'd care to try it while balancing on a branch about 30 feet up in a tree. I have several times seen this heron snoozing like this above the West Bay Walkway near Sailor's Cove.
Great pic! I think humans would end up with a terrible neck-ache if we tried to sleep like that. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent close-up. Those claws must be dug-in while they're snoozing.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like seeing a heron in a tree is common occurrence for you. I have one seen this happen onece and the photo is posted

Funny capture -- good eye.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for your kind comments. Andy, herons here often roost in the trees. We usually see them hunting their food on the foreshore where they are more visible but they nest in large heronrys that are in the tree-tops.
