California Poppies (Eschscholzia californica)

In late spring and early summer roadsides and waste areas near the shorelines are decorated with the brilliant orange of California Poppies. And even when summer's drought has turned the grasses golden these hardy little flowers continue to bloom. They're one of my favorites.

  1. I wasn't sure if they grew north of California, but I swear I've seen them along the highways up here. Glad to see that I identified them correctly.

  2. Beautiful photo, with the perfect backdrop for the flowers. The poppies are one of my favorites too.

  3. I too love these flowers, they are EVERYWHERE! Something to keep in mind for an easy plant for the garden.
