Open

"Open" is one of the most under-appreciated words in the English language. If I was going to start a religion it would be called "Openism." The church would have a great big flashing neon OPEN sign that would always be on and the door would always be open. "Open" is almost always associated with good things - open source, open learning, open-minded, it's a long list. And for me, it's constant challenge to try to be more open to people and ideas and things I may not like. I like to see signs that say "OPEN" because they remind me to relax and open up to what's around me.

  2. Benjamin, that is spectacular framing! And the exposure for both the neon and the sky is perfect. Bravo!

  3. "Open arms"

What a great commentary on your "Open" photo. I love the silhuoette of the tree (Do you know what it is?)

This is, I think a difficult photo to accomplish. I enjoyed this. =)

  5. photo & narrative - good all around. I'd join your Openism if there's neon involved...

  6. I could use a dose of OPEN myself. I promise to work on it.

  7. Thanks all for your kind remarks. "Open arms" and "open house" are good additions to the list. I don't know what kind of tree is silhouetted on the left there - it is some kind of pine that is planted here and there in Chinatown, and grows (or is trained) like a giant bonsai.
KG: of course there's neon - we're open to anything.
Virginia, yes, when one is younger one structures one's life along fairly narrow paths (it's called "focus") in order to succeed, but when we get older we don't need to be so careful or rigid. Yet it's hard to break down those walls that we built so carefully and purposefully.
