Today I had the pleasure of meeting Metro, a street musician playing on the Inner Harbour causeway. He plays the Ukrainian Dulcimer, an instrument I had never heard before. Below is a video I took to give you some idea of what a dulcimer sounds like and how it is played.
Hey! That's a nice treat! I think they used it in some of the Dr. Zhivago soundtrack. Very cool.

ReplyDeleteThere must be versions of the dulcimer all around the world. I know there are appalachian dulcimers which probably were later versions of Irish, Welsh and Scottish dulcimers.

@USelaine: "balalaika" is the name of the instrument used in the dr. zhivago soundtrack (lara's theme).
ReplyDeletethat being said i have often wondered myself how lara's theme must sound like if played with hammered dulcimers ...
