Only a signal shown and a distant voice in the darkness;
So on the ocean of life we pass and speak one another,
Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence.
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
One of my favourite annual events took place on Sunday afternoon, the Vic West Corn Roast. It's a great little neighbourhood celebration that is very like a block party. Local musicians provide the entertainment and there are many other activities we'll take a look at over the next few days. Meanwhile, the little guys pictured above are waiting while the musicians get set up. |
One of the nice things about the Classic Boat Festival is how many of the friendly boat owners are willing to let you get on board and look around. Above is the parlour of the Olympus, a 92 foot motor yacht built in 1929. to the left is a glimpse of the galley. |
It's been some time since I checked out the Victoria Public Market. It's been open now long enough to have developed its own character. It's mostly about food - trendy olive oil and cheese shops but lots of vegetables and exotic fast foods and places to sit and snack. I like the sign above the pie shop below - definitely a good sentiment. |
