Details

I mentioned a few days ago how I appreciated that even the details in Chinatown contribute to the ambiance. Here's two examples, a bike rack and a trash container, both painted the bright red that is an auspicious color in Chinese culture.

  1. Very red!

One of the features in our Chinatown is inlaid into the sidewalks, images of animals important in the culture.

  2. Oh that's a bike rack? I saw that when I was up there but I didn't know what it was. I assume the letters must say 'bike rack' in Chinese.

  3. @William - that's a nice feature. As you can see in the bike rack photo, the sidewalks in front of the Chinese Public School are decorated with designs but not as ambitious as in your city.

@JoJo - Yes, it's not really a bike rack so much as a place to chain your bike to - any bike not chained down here is soon stolen. I think the Chinese characters spell something like "Happiness".
