As visitor Paul in Powell River points out, Mount Baker is NOT an extinct volcano but is in fact the second most active volcano in this area, the most active being Mount Saint Helens. My thanks to Paul for this correction. See this entry in Wikipedia for more information about Mount Baker. If you want to see some beautiful photos of the Sunshine Coast, take a look at Paul's photoblog, A Powell River Photo Blog. I am particularly fond of his header photo of some Harlequin Ducks in flight.

Very nice pano! But as Mount Baker is the second-most active volcano in the area - after St Helens - I'll take exception with the "extinct volcano" description. :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful panorama, but as Paul said, Baker is very much alive. It vents steam all the time.
ReplyDeleteAwesome photo!
ReplyDeleteJoJo, I knew it was active, but didn't know that it vented steam. I recently returned from Costa Rica where they have four active volcanoes in a country about 3x size of Vancouver Island. They use them to generate geothermal power. Wonder if the same could be done for Baker?
Very cool feature with your new camera. Sounds like making these panorama shots just got a lot easier. Hope we see many more. An inner harbour shot from near the Tourist Info Centre would be terrific, capturing all of the Empress Hotel, the Legislature and the harbour itself. Might want to wait until the hoarding is off the CP building under renovation though.
ReplyDeleteThanks JoJo for the additional Mt. Baker info. And thanks also Dean for the good idea. It's about time for another Inner Harbour panorama.
ReplyDeleteAs Paul said this is a nice Pano, so much beautiful scenery, looks a great place to be on a sailboat.
ReplyDeleteThanks much for the link!!
